Workshop Summary:

I am Kieran Poole, an award-winning eco artist making art using littered bottle lids on a snooker table, and offer workshops for your pupils to participate in mosaic building while learning about plastic pollution and the environment. FAQ below.

Additional Information:

What does the workshop entail?
I begin with an educational PowerPoint about my art, litter, and plastic pollution. Then, the class is split into groups of threes to make mosaics using littered lids on green cloths.

How does the workshop fit with our curriculum?
It fits within your art and science eco learning around plastic pollution, English with question and answering, and maths when looking at the number of pieces of litter. Plus, geography as I discuss how ocean currents move litter around the planet and history with Roman mosaics. Finally, citizenship about being good human beings.

How much does it cost?
The 1-hour workshop is £150 and four in a day is discounted to £500.
The 2-hour workshop is £300 and two in a day is discounted to £500.
Please get in contact if wanting to spread workshops for the whole of KS2 over multiple days.

What extra parts does the 2-hour workshop contain?
The 2-hour workshop contains a tower-building team exercise using lids, a team quiz, and a class reflection.

What class size does the workshop accommodate?
Each workshop is designed for a maximum of 30 children.

What is the duration of the workshop?
It is two hours and can fit around your breaktimes.

What year groups does the workshop suit?
It caters for Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6. It is not suitable for Early Years and Year 1 due to small parts.

How far in advance can we book?
I recommend booking at least four-to-six weeks in advance to ensure availability, especially during peak school seasons.

What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
You can cancel or reschedule up to seven days in advance. Cancellations made less than seven days prior may incur a cancellation fee. Rescheduling is subject to availability.

What if you have to cancel?
If I have to cancel due to illness or injury, I will ensure an alternate date is arranged that fits your schedule with your booking fee transferred to a new date.

What is your payment policy?
Your payment must be made within 30 days of receiving the invoice.

Do you provide an evaluation or feedback form after the workshop?
Yes. Teachers and staff involved will be given a paper feedback form and will be asked if they are happy for their quotes to feature on the website like others here.

Do you take photos?
I will send a parent/carer permission form about photography immediately after the booking is confirmed. Any children who cannot be photographed will be put in the same groups when producing the mosaics. At the end, I always show the teacher any photos taken to ensure safeguarding protocols are adhered.

Can we take photos?
Yes. Teachers are most welcome to take photos of me and the workshop in action.

What technical requirements do you need?
I require access to power for my laptop and a HDMI connection to your whiteboard.

Do we need to provide materials?
No. All the lids and green cloths are provided.

Why green cloths?
This is to replicate the snooker table on which my art is made.

As the lids have been litterpicked, are they safe to handle?
Yes. The lids have been cleaned and sterilised. Many of them are misshapen or broken due to vehicles running over them when littered and some have even been burnt. Therefore, I do tell the children to be careful when handling them.

Do the children get anything to take home?
Yes. Each child receives an “I am an eco artist” fridge magnet made from an upcycled milk lid.

Are you willing to do a whole school assembly?
Yes. However, depending on what time it is, there may be an extra charge.

What do the children call you?
I am happy to be called “Kieran”.

Where have you done workshops so far?
I have facilitated Rubbish Snooker workshops in schools across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, and London.

Do you have a DBS?
Yes. I have an enhanced child workforce DBS on the Update Service. I am the only workshop facilitator and, having taught in education, I have taken the relevant safeguarding training.

What else is your background?
I began in stand-up comedy and have spent time in journalism, broadcasting, and teaching.
